The Albert Canal project consists in the reconstruction of a set of several bridges, through their elevation over the water line, with the purpose of promoting the navigability of the Antwerp – Liège route.

These works will allow the passage of larger cargo ships, with the possibility of load up to four layers of containers (that is 9.1 meters above water line).

To raise this set of bridges, higher abutments and steel arched bridges were built, as well as anchored quay walls, ensuring a greater heigh in relation to the water line and width for the canal. These works were also accompanied by dredging that allowed to deepen the navigation canal.
