ConstruGomes’ involvement in Antwerp’s major infrastructure works has continued to evolve through successive phases and new challenges.
The journey began with Bypass Noord – Phase 1, followed by ROCO East – Phase 1, Bypass Noord – Phase 2, R1N, Merksem Viaduct and, most recently, ROCO East – Phase 2.
This continuity reflects not only ConstruGomes’ proven technical capabilities, but also the quality of its execution, close collaboration with the teams on site and a proactive approach to finding solutions and supporting the client.
With the Bypass Noord and R1N works now completed, the teams are currently focused on two new work fronts.
At ROCO East – Phase 2, following the demolition of the existing section between Pier 4 and the viaduct abutment, ConstruGomes will execute the new section between Piers 1 and 4, including the deck, reconstruction of the abutment and construction of Pier 2.
This intervention presents a particular challenge due to the limited working space and the need to carry out the works while keeping traffic lanes operational on both sides of the construction area, as well as beneath the viaduct along Schijnpoortweg.
At the Merksem Viaduct, reinforcement foundations are being constructed for the existing structure, in preparation for the replacement of the bridge bearings and the future excavation of the tunnel that will carry the traffic currently using the viaduct.
Project after project, ConstruGomes continues to strengthen its presence in Antwerp, taking on new challenges across some of the region’s most significant infrastructure works.
