The Los Mina Combined-cycle Power Plant was at the time of its construction the largest in the whole of the Dominican Republic. The project involved converting Santo Domingo's Los Mina thermoelectric plant, which consists of two gas turbines operating in open cycle, to combined cycle. Works included installing two heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine.
The new plant will add 114MW of new power generation capacity to the existing 210 mW open cycle. The conversion to combined-cycle made Los Minas power plant one of the most competitive in the country with a 50% increase in efficiency.
