The methodology that was used to build the bridge deck was developed using the balanced cantilever method, this had a cross section of 29 meters in width. This represented a first in Portugal, as it was the first time that concreting at this width had been accomplished.
Highway A4 is also known as The Marão Highway, which is where the Viaduto V3 is located. The Marão tunnel is also located in this highway, it has a length of 5656 meters and it is the biggest tunnel in Portugal. The introduction of this new Highway A4 provided people with a safer alternative route to the Itinerário Principal 4(IP4). The Itinerário Principal 4 (IP4) is a notoriously dangerous highway in Portugal that allows the traffic to flow through Trás-os-Montes.
