Description
The Puente sobre el río Turia, in Manises, is one of the most peculiar bridges of Valencia’s metropolitan area, Spain. This project made it possible to overcome hydrological constraints in an efficient way. Over than 1250 cubic meters, used in this viaduct’s construction, resulted of the demolition of the previous bridge allowing the aggregates recycling. The entire structure was a pilot project concerning the use of recycled aggregates in a cable-stayed bridge.
The existing bridge at the time, meanwhile demolished and recycled, was too narrow and allowed passage in one direction only, forcing alternated traffic.
The International Association of Engineers and Structures awarded the project since it was the first bridge in the world to use recycled material for its construction.
